When an aircraft cannot fly until one part arrives
AOG logistics exists for the moment a grounded aircraft is waiting on a single component, and every hour it sits carries a cost no schedule can absorb. When the part has to move now, by whatever path is fastest, it needs a team already on shift and already moving.
- The aircraft is grounded and the clock is running: A cancelled flight, a fleet plan unraveling, and a cost that climbs every hour the aircraft sits. The part doesn’t just need to arrive. It needed to arrive yesterday.
- The part is bound for a hard place: A regional airfield, a diversion airport, or a stand a long way from any hub. Reaching it fast takes routing built by someone who has done it before.
- The component is restricted: Chemical oxygen generators, evacuation-slide charges, lithium units, or fuel-wetted parts. So much of what keeps an aircraft flying is class dangerous goods, and it can’t move a mile without certified handling.
- The part can’t leave anyone’s sight: A rotable with no spare, a loan unit on a deadline, or a component too critical to route through a sorting hub. It travels hand-carried, watched the whole way.
